Snow Chains Passenger Cars
Snow chains or front-fitted chains?
More and more luxury cars with larger rim sizes (from 17 inches) have no or insufficient clearance to use conventional snow chains. Due to the limited space in the wheel arch, these cars require front-fitted chains. You will find this restriction in the manual of your car.

SUVs and 4x4 and vans
Heavier vehicles such as SUVs and 4x4s require chains of heavier quality. Passenger car snow chains cannot be used on the tyres of these vehicles.Weissenfels snow chains
For conventional snow chains we rent the reliable brand Weissenfels. The snow chains are easy to mount. See our download page for mounting instructions.
Front or rear wheels?
Snow chains are mounted on the driven wheels. These are usually the front wheels. BMW and Mercedes often have rear-wheel drive.
Winter, summer or all-season
A winter tyre can be recognised by the sipes in the tread. The winter tyre is also internationally marked with the Alpine symbol (mountain with snowflake). Often there is also the M+S marking on the tyre, which stands for Mud and Snow.
RUD Hybrid snow chains
We also rent Rud Hybrid, a ‘snow chain’ with a nylon sleeve that fits over the tyre. Quick to mount. Less suitable for rear-wheel-drive cars and more vulnerable than a conventional snow chain.
Rinsing after use
Rinse the chains with lukewarm water after use. Then let them dry before storing them in the packaging.
Space in the wheel arch
Always check how much space is available in the wheel arches. Make sure it is sufficient for snow chains to avoid damage. This information can be found in the vehicle’s manual.
Tyre size
The tyre size is printed on your tyres. The format is width in mm / height in % of the width R for radial or rim diameter in inches.
